Lufthansa Systems Implements The Latest Version Of Beta Systems’ Identity Access Management Software

Beta Systems Software AG announced that Lufthansa Systems, a full-service IT provider for the aviation sector, has implemented the latest version of its SAM Enterprise Identity Manager 1.1 security solution. SAM Enterprise Identity Manager 1.1 forms the heart of Lufthansa Systems’ GOVERNOR enterprise security management solution, which provides a complete service for user administration and the allocation and monitoring of access permissions. GOVERNOR enables companies to manage user identities cost-effectively and efficiently while ensuring they fulfill compliance regulations. The Beta Systems solution consolidates user and enterprise data from a variety of sources, then processes it and forwards it to the relevant target systems. Lufthansa Systems has been working with Beta Systems’ identity access management software for several years and the implementation of SAM Enterprise Identity Manager 1.1 replaces an older version, SAM Jupiter 3.5, that the company had been using previously. The project included migrating the mainframe-based database system from DB2 to Microsoft SQL Server running on a high-availability Windows cluster.

Within GOVERNOR, SAM Enterprise Identity Manager administers over 200,000 users at Lufthansa Systems and its customers. The solution currently supports more than 50 different target systems, including customer-specific legacy solutions as well as standard systems like SAP, Windows, LDAP, RACF and Lotus Domino. Around 100,000 user accounts are managed in each of the larger systems. SAM Enterprise Identity Manager enables the company to import user data from a range of different HR systems. It also provides interfaces to web portals, allowing users to reset their passwords and apply for access permissions. With SAM Enterprise Identity Manager, role- and rule-based administration processes can be automated to a very high degree. The Beta Systems solution has a platform-independent architecture, which ensures that various customer-specific applications can communicate directly with SAM Enterprise Identity Manager.

Lufthansa Systems and Beta Systems have been working together since 2000. During that time, Beta Systems has managed a number of successful projects at the company, including the implementation of additional target systems and functionalities as well as migrations to new versions and releases of SAM. The latest migration strengthens the collaboration with Lufthansa Systems and reaffirms Beta Systems’ competence and expertise in the identity management market.
